Gauze Series · Fluff Bandage Roll
Fluff Gauze Bandage Roll
(Kerlix-type / Krinkle Gauze)
100% prewashed, fluff-dried cotton with unique crinkle-weave pattern — higher loft, absorbency, and cushioning than plain gauze. Finished (woven selvedge) edges reduce lint and granuloma risk. Dual use: primary wound contact or secondary absorbent layer. 6-ply and 8-ply. Sterile and non-sterile.

★ Standard ward stock
6-Ply
4.5" × 4.1 yards (approx. 11.5 cm × 3.75 m) per roll
Six layers of crinkle-weave cotton. Standard format for general ward use — adequate absorbency and cushioning for post-operative wound care, routine surgical dressing, burn coverage, head and limb bandaging. Most commonly procured format.

Heavy absorbency / specialist
8-Ply
4.5" × 9.3 feet (approx. 11.5 cm × 2.83 m) per roll
Eight layers — greater thickness, absorbency, and cushioning. Longer roll per unit. For heavily exuding wounds, large burn coverage, plastic surgery post-operative dressing, or orthopedic wounds requiring extra padding bulk.

Always specify ply — 6-ply and 8-ply have different lengths and cost
A purchase order for "fluff gauze roll 4.5 inch" without ply specification may result in either variant. The two differ in roll length (4.1 yards vs 9.3 feet) and absorbency profile. Specify "6-ply" or "8-ply" explicitly.
Product Features
Why Kingphar Fluff Gauze Roll
🌀
Crinkle-Weave — More Loft Than Plain Gauze
Unique crimped weave creates tiny fluid-trapping pockets for higher absorbency per unit area than flat plain-weave gauze. Three-dimensional structure adds bulk and cushioning — protecting the wound from external pressure. Source: Cardinal Health / bandagesplus.com product descriptions.
💧
Fast-Wicking + Superior Aeration
Open crinkle structure wicks wound exudate rapidly away from the wound surface. Open weave allows air circulation to the wound bed — reducing maceration risk during wear. Dual benefit for both absorbency and ventilation. Source: Cardinal Health product page.
🔒
Finished (Woven Selvedge) Edges
Both long edges are finished woven selvedge — not cut edges. Reduces loose thread and lint shedding during application. Cotton fibres entering wounds from cut-edge gauze are a documented cause of granuloma formation. Source: Cardinal Health product description explicitly states this benefit.
🌿
Prewashed, Fluff-Dried Cotton
Natural cotton waxes and oils removed during prewash — ensuring rapid hydrophilic absorption on wound contact. Fluff-drying enhances crinkle-weave structure and bulk. Unwashed gauze does not absorb rapidly. Prewash status verifiable by EN 14079 ether-soluble substances ≤0.50% on batch CoA.
↕
Primary or Secondary Use
As primary dressing: wound contact provides wicking, aeration, and absorbency. As secondary dressing: adds bulk, cushioning, and additional absorbency capacity over primary dressings. Conforms to irregular body surfaces — heads, joints, difficult anatomy. Source: Cardinal Health IFU.

Standard and Narrow Widths
WidthDimensionsPrimary applications
2¼" (5.7 cm)2¼" × 3 yardsFingers, toes, small paediatric wounds, IV site padding
3.4" (8.6 cm)3⅖" × 3.6 yardsWrist, small forearm, paediatric limbs
4.5" (11.5 cm) ★4.5" × 4.1 yd (6-ply) / 4.5" × 9.3 ft (8-ply)Standard adult use — forearm, lower leg, head, surgical sites. Most commonly procured.
Narrow widths for fingers and small paediatric wounds
The 4.5" width is too wide for finger and small paediatric wound applications. Stock 2¼" width alongside standard 4.5" for complete clinical coverage. Source: McKesson Cardinal Health product size range confirmed.
Critical Usage Note
Standard fluff gauze rolls are NOT x-ray detectable — do not use intra-operatively
Standard Kerlix-type fluff gauze rolls contain no radiopaque markers. Retained standard gauze inside a body cavity cannot be detected on post-operative imaging — a serious patient safety risk. For intra-operative applications, specify x-ray detectable gauze only. Kingphar also supplies x-ray detectable laparotomy sponges — see the Laparotomy Sponge product page.
