Three Non-Adherent Dressing Types
Most widely procured
Perforated Film
Viscose or cotton absorbent core bonded to perforated polyester film on one or both wound-contact faces. The perforated film creates a physical barrier preventing gauze fibres from contacting the wound. Exudate passes through to the absorbent core.
Best for: General ward, post-op wound care, first aid kits, IV site coverage, dressing changes.
Burns / grafts
Paraffin-Impregnated
Woven cotton gauze saturated with white soft paraffin (BP minimum ≥175 g/m²). Paraffin lubricates the wound contact surface, preventing fibre adhesion and providing a semi-moist wound environment. Same as vaseline gauze / tulle gras.
Best for: Partial-thickness burns, skin graft donor sites, granulating wounds.
Fragile / high-care
Silicone Mesh
Soft silicone coated on polyamide or polyester mesh. Silicone bonds to surrounding skin to hold the dressing but does not adhere to the moist wound surface — the most atraumatic mechanism available. Higher cost tier.
Best for: Burns, skin grafts, blistering wounds, paediatric, fragile elderly skin.

Perforated Film Contact Surface
Perforated polyester film wound-contact face creates a physical barrier between the absorbent core and wound tissue. Prevents gauze fibres from embedding in granulating wound bed — atraumatic dressing removal.

Absorbent Viscose/Cotton Core
Soft viscose/cotton blend absorbent core manages light to moderate exudate. Fluid passes through the perforated film into the core away from the wound surface — keeping the contact zone drier.

One-Sided & Two-Sided Options
One-sided (film on wound-contact face only) and two-sided (film on both faces) variants available. Two-sided pads reduce application error risk — no defined wound-contact orientation required. Specify at order stage.

EO sterilized (ISO 11135) or gamma sterilized (ISO 11137), SAL 10⁻⁶. Individual peel-open sterile packaging per ISO 11607. Non-sterile bulk pack also available for community settings.

Critical Procurement Note
Always specify: one-sided or two-sided — it is not a minor detail
One-sided non-adherent pads have the perforated film on one face only. If applied film-side out (absorbent core facing wound), the non-adherent property is completely lost — the pad behaves as plain gauze and adheres to the wound. Two-sided pads can be applied either way and reduce this application error risk. For wards with variable staff experience, two-sided pads are lower risk. Specify which type is required — "non-adherent pad" alone does not define this.

The perforated film non-adherent pad is a wound contact layer only — it has limited or no standalone absorbency.
