Post-Op Sponge
Cellulose-Filled, Non-Woven, High Absorbency

Multi-layer post-operative wound sponges with cellulose fluff core and non-woven rayon/polyester outer layer. Higher absorption than all-cotton gauze. Sterile 2/envelope. Latex-free. CE, FDA, and SFDA documented. For external wound drainage — not for intraoperative body cavity use.

Core Material
Cellulose
Fluff pulp — exceeds cotton gauze absorption
Standard Sizes
3"×4" / 4"×4"
Imperial · metric on request
Pack Format
2/envelope
25 envelopes · 50 sponges per box
⚠ Important — External Use Only

Standard post-op sponges do not contain X-ray detectable threads and are not suitable for intraoperative placement inside body cavities. For body cavity use, specify laparotomy sponges or X-ray detectable gauze swabs. Always clarify product type in tender specifications.

Product Features

Why Cellulose-Filled Outperforms Plain Cotton Gauze

The cellulose fluff core delivers a fundamentally different absorption profile versus woven cotton — essential for managing the heavy drainage volumes common in the first 72 hours after major surgery.

◎

Cellulose Core Absorption

Extra-absorbent cellulose fluff pulp inner fill absorbs and retains significantly more fluid than all-cotton gauze — reducing dressing change frequency and nursing time per patient.

⊕

Non-Woven Wound Face

Soft rayon/polyester spunlace outer layer is low-lint and low-adherence. Fluid passes rapidly through to the cellulose core while the wound surface stays protected.

◐

Strike-Through Barrier

Moisture-resistant polyethylene backing prevents fluid from saturating through to clothing or bedding. Sealed edges on all margins stop lateral leakage and lint contamination.

◉

Latex-Free Construction

No natural rubber latex in any component. Safe for latex-sensitive patients — a standard requirement for hospital formulary approval in most markets.

▣

Sterile 2/Envelope Format

Each pair of sponges sealed in individual coated paper envelope for aseptic dispensing. 25 envelopes per box. Standard pallet configuration for high-volume institutional supply.

Construction

Three-Layer Composite Structure

1
Non-Woven Facing (Wound Contact)

Rayon/polyester spunlace — soft, low-lint, low-adherence wound surface

2
Cellulose Fluff Core (Absorption Engine)

Extra-absorbent cellulose fiber fill — superior fluid uptake and retention vs cotton gauze

3
Moisture-Resistant Backing

Polyethylene barrier — prevents fluid strike-through to secondary dressing or clothing
